- Higher education in Hungary has a long history. More than 600 years ago, Hungary’s first university was founded. Today, there are more than ten public and private, religious schools and universities in Budapest alone, several of which offer graduate (B.Sc., M.Sc.) and postgraduate (Ph.D., DLA) programs in English. Numerous foreign scientific research institutions collaborate with the universities.
- Diplomas from Hungary are respected and recognized all around the world. More and more foreign students are coming to Budapest because of the great quality of the programs, the relatively low tuition costs compared to other countries, and the low cost of living.
- Hungary is a Schengen state and a member of the European Union. The Bologna System, which governs higher education, allows students to transfer between EU Universities. As a result, diplomas are recognized throughout the European Union.
- Institutions in higher education have a long history, with some surviving for hundreds of years. The Institution of Pecs, which has been in operation since 1367, is the oldest university in Hungary, but Debrecen has had a continuous history of higher education since 1538.
